The First Contact scheme uses a simple cheklist to help people aged 60 or over recieve services to keep them safe and independent in their own homes. If a staff member from any of the partner agencies goes to visit an older persons home, such as a policeman, firefighter or volunteer, they will complete a checklist to find out if they have any other needs for.....

A home security check
Any repairs or mobility adaptations that are required in the home
Any energy saving improvements to keep warm and save on energy bills
Confidential advice on any monies the householder may be entitled to
Signposting to local community transport schemes
Signposting to local voluntary and community groups and clubs
Advice on different types of housing accommodation that may be available

Checklists are then sent to a central point of contact, in Bassetlaw this is "County Contact".They then forward referrals to each "pathway" generated from the checklist
A representative from the organization will then contact to dicuss what is available within 28 days.
First contact is running across the whole of Nottinghamshire, (except for the city as they are not part of the linkage funding). First contact has given help to more than 2,500 people, generating over 4,300 referals since its launch in February 2007.
